Healthy Eating

Nourishing your body with a variety of good healthy foods is at the core of my belief system for wellness, vitality and optimum function of the human anatomy.  All too often eating nutrient dense foods is overlooked for rather an extreme fitness program or unsustainable restricted methods of eating for results -. Find a good way of eating that makes you smile, is kind to your body, balanced and allows for you to be supplied with all the goodness your body deserves to see you through your days.  Food is a joy, I believe in keeping it that way.

What I have learned....

I love food and have enjoyed learning over the many years about food, how to prepare it, how to choose it and most of all how to respect it. Throughout my teens and into my early twenties I worked as a model, this toxic environment brought about terrible eating disorders.  Not that one needs to be in the fashion industry to be faced with the insecurities of appearances as we all want to look and feel good.  I thankfully overcame my illness; However marred by this experience the following years of my life were heavily influenced by health trends, new diets, fitness articles, magazines & the pressures to live up to societies standards of beauty.  I began to find many ways to obsessively control, over-indulge, deprive or sabotage myself when it came to food & without reaslising it this psychological trauma looking back spilled out into other avenues of life subliminally affecting how I felt about myself . I tried everything and all the choices I made became new ways to just harness control over a life I evidently had no control over.

Then coming to a point of realisation I drew a big line under it all and decided to heal my relationship with food, I took up a nutrition course and read every health food book, blog, website I could get my hands on and discovered Freedom with Food and just how much I love it, I respect it and I prepare it with all my heart to nourish all my cells and give me Life to live joyously with everything I got.

If you are considering going vegan which is a wonderful way to eat but make sure its for the right reasons and your doing it correctly because cutting out huge vital food groups is harmful  in so many ways in the long run as most of the vegan subsitutes are processed and void of nutrients.   In the wake of Instagram I cant imagine how I would have survived, but ultimately you have to live your Truth -   I suppose it was this journey in itself that has brought me to this conclusion.  EAT SMART & EAT FOR YOU...and Relax!

  • I do not belong to any categories of eating phenomenon
  • I understand what foods are allergenic and what foods cause inflammation and steer clear away from these
  • I eat all wholesome, fresh, quality food

Food glorious Food!

My top tips: Mostly Vegetarian, No Sugar, No Gluten, No Cows Milk

 Here are some ideas...

The foundations on how to nourish up wisely would be to not do anything too drastic

A few tips though:

*Eat less Grain or even cut it out , going Gluten-Free is one of the best things you can do for your health & fitness choose quality pseudo-grains instead like Quinoa, Buckwheat, Teff, Millet, Rices

*Cut out too much dairy so lattes, Cappuccinos or cereals topped with milk? Use Plant mylk rather (Oat Milk is creamy & fabulous!) less dairy is always good.  (a little good mature cheese with wine... for a treat on occasion!)

* Probiotics are integral to healthy gut function which is literally everything! their fermented with good for you probiotics which help to metabolize nutrients, power up your immunity, aids weight loss and supports healthy glandular function, also key player in calming the nervous system - good ways to indulge in this nourishment; Coconut or Almond Kefir, Plant based sugar free Yogurts, Kombucha & other great sources... look out for them!

* Stay away from Sugar... you know it, you heard it. All processed foods, junk food, confectionery - There is nothing to see.... just slowly poisoning yourself to early terminal illness. A little good grade honey, dates or dark chocolate are great ways to have a little sweetness... - And if you must have cookies or cake there are so many great gluten free healthy versions to have access to now in grocery stores; albeit still laden with sugar however no processed white flour provides great relief - These are okay to enjoy in moderation.  I remember when that was not a thing and I had to bake everything from scratch with almond flour and all the hope of a good muffin reward! Which is good form if your up to it! Be adventurous :) go the mile.. bake your own goods in your spare time and put them in the fridge! or go and buy some quality for

your guilt free stash of treats!

* Become conscious about what you put into your temple, becoming mindful so you make better controlled decisions - have a treat.... know when to stop. Balance is key...enjoy life, enjoy food..but enjoy other things too... you will know when food is actually more a drug than a fuel.

All these different foods look devilishly good and naughty.... don't they?! Well they appear so.... but really I have found ways to enjoy food in a carefully mindful way choosing ingredients that are nutritious, non-allergenic, clean and low in sugar.  I have found that a diet comprising of an abundance of vegetables, legumes and leafy greens with an emphasis on vegetarian meals interspersed with the addition of good amounts of quality animal protein in the form of wild caught fish, on occasion free range chicken or red meat (this does not have to be beef but go along with other choices that are more gamy, cleaner and not mass produced).   Listen to your body and nourish it wisely - Vegetables, salads, fruits, nuts, seeds, good fats, soups, pulses should be the makeup of your diet - Choose Cakes and pancakes made with almond flour or gluten free based flour, coconut oil or organic butter for grease sweetened with dates, coconut nectar or honey and I use nutrient dense raw cacao for chocolate or blueberries for a fruity variation for muffins or pancakes. Simply caramelize your berries or fruit... you never ever need to add sugar.

I believe in having a hearty chicken broth to boost your immune and heal a nasty cold in the winter months or if you just need a hug in a bowl, I swear by it! Eat quinoa or rice based pasta... you couldn't tell the difference or you just need to learn how to cook it.  Grocery stores sell some good options for gluten free pasta, also buckwheat pasta or noodles are fabulous to add to your soups or just to have accompanied with veggies or seafood!...Eat oily fish! Your body desperately needs the omega 3, it lowers stress and anxiety as well as proven to prevent the onset of brain diseases.  Lots of green juices are great and have a turmeric latte instead of your usual coffee option sometimes! Have smoothie bowls, their a great way to eat your raw greens.... drink them up in a delicious concoction of banana, almond butter, berries, spinach or kale and blend with plant milks & few ice blocks for refreshment...add a superfood powder and your really winning!  Lastly drink water... do not sip it through the day...Drink a whole lot first thing in the morning and then space it out through your day so your body hydrates then gets on with other things - This idea of sipping water through the day confuses the body and overworks the digestion.  So then....Its these relaxed but intelligent ways of eating that are varied and wonderfully balanced, delicious, free from nasties and thoroughly healthy & sustainable to follow for the long haul.
